5 Foods to Fight Inflammation and 5 Foods to Avoid Inflammation

In this report, we will take an in depth look at inflammation. We will look at why inflammation happens in the body at all, and at what factors cause natural, healthy inflammation to tip over into dangerous chronic inflammation. We will take an in depth look at the role that food plays in causing inflammation, and see which foods are the worst and should be avoided. We can introduce foods that should be prioritizing in order to actively fight inflammation.

Normal Healthy Inflammation

Inflammation is a healthy body’s response to certain threats and is not something to cause concern when it happens for a short period of time. Although inflammation often has a very negative connotation, inflammation is a natural process that helps our body heal and defend itself from harm.

Inflammation is one of the ways that our body protects itself against infection, illness and injury. When the body has a problem, our body responds by increasing its production of white blood cells, immune cells, and substances called cytokines. All of these fight that infection.

An obvious indication of when healing inflammation is taking place is redness, pain, heat and swelling. This can happen both externally near the skin when we have a serious cut, or internally within our organs.

Take for example, a sprained ankle.  With a few minutes, edema or swelling sets in. This is a normal response from our body, because our body sends healing fluids to the site of the injury.

The swelling should go down within a short period of time as the blood flows and our body heals itself. But what if the edema does not stop? What if a part of our body remains swollen and inflamed?

The problem with inflammation is when the body’s inflammation processes stop working properly. At that point, the inflammation becomes chronic.

Indigestion and Inflammation

Another example would be when we ingest fruits and vegetables that have been sprayed with chemicals. Our stomach starts to feel queasy and a bit bloated as healing fluids arrive in the area to do their job. Again, this bloating, indigestion and inflammation to the digestive tract should end in a short period of time.

But what if our body does not recognize that the threat has been eliminated? What happens when our body continues to send healing fluids in the area? What kind of discomfort and damage can this inflammation cause?

Again, when the body’s inflammation processes stop working properly, the inflammation becomes chronic.

Chronic Inflammation Triggers Other Serious Illnesses

Chronic inflammation often goes undetected and is one of the leading causes of chronic pain. It can also damage our body in ways that lead to serious illnesses, most notably cancer.

Chronic inflammation is a root cause as well for autoimmune diseases, arthritis, joint pain, and many other illnesses related to indigestion.

Acute vs Chronic Inflammation

Short term or time bounded inflammation is known as acute inflammation.

Long term inflammation is chronic, inflammation. Chronic inflammation is usually what is referred to regarding ‘inflammation’ and why inflammation is viewed as negative. Chronic inflammation, wherever it exists in our body, is always negative!

Chronic inflammation happens when the body’s inflammation system does not know when to stop working and our bodies stay in a constant state of alert. Often our organs become inflamed.

When internal inflammation continues for a long period of time, rather than healing, it can cause damage, and in time lead to illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease and cancer!

Symptoms of Chronic Inflammation

More and more people are suffering with chronic pain, the source of which is often unknown. Not only does chronic pain affect us physically, it also affects us emotionally.
