Fatigue or Vitality, 6 Choices!

Six Common Causes of CFS

When fatigue is not related to any past medical condition, it is called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS. Reports have indicated that at least 836,000 to 2.5 million Americans suffer from fatigue. The most interesting though, is that the majority of fatigue sufferers remain undiagnosed!

Fortunately, each condition below can be treated so we can live a much-improved quality of life.

  1. Stressed Adrenals – Rest

Fatigue can occur if we have overworked our adrenals for a long period. Everyone’s body is meant to have ample rest time.

Overworking our adrenals inhibits our body to produce sufficient cortisol that our body needs to function. When our cortisol level decreases, it causes us to feel tired all the time.

Cortisol is a hormone our bodies need to aid in breaking up glycogen. Glycogen is essential to our muscles.

Additionally, cortisol helps to deliver glucose to our cells.  If our cortisol levels drop, many of our bodily functions will be affected including our immune system, blood sugar level, blood pressure, and brain function.

Thankfully for most people, it does not take too much to get our adrenal function back to normal.

Our glands can retain their functionality by simply incorporating 10-20 minutes of rest. This could be silence, listening to music, meditating, stretching or a power nap into our daily routine.

  1. Anemia – Iron

Anemia is common and happens when we have an iron deficiency in our body. Red blood cells are essential to transport oxygen in our body to give us more energy. However, people who have anemia do not produce the red blood cells that they need to thrive.

Anemia can also be triggered when our diet lacks enough iron. To treat fatigue caused by anemia, it is recommended to adjust our diet and eat foods that are rich in iron.

Foods rich in iron would include green leafy vegetables like spinach, parsley, kale, cilantro and wheat grass.  Other foods rich in iron are red meat like beef, lamb, dark poultry and wild-caught salmon.

For some people, anemia results from blood loss or a condition wherein the body destroys its own red blood cells. Anemia is more common among women than men due to menstruation and pregnancy.
